Social art, wearable pieces, and creative experiments exploring self-expression, play, and human connection.
Social Art for Aliveness, Self-Expression, and Connection
Love, Megawatt is the artistic world of Stephanie Cowan, a social artist using radical self-expression and handmade art to fund a larger movement around human connection, play, and belonging.
Stephanie considers herself an “everything artist,” creating with whatever materials life places in front of her. Found objects. Street treasures from San Francisco’s Mission District. Vintage textiles. Thrifted garments. Ribbon. Paint. Trash. Memory. Emotion.
Her work explores all mediums through the lens of authentic self-expression.
After multiple experiences with burnout, Stephanie rediscovered herself through art making. What began as personal healing became a practice of visibility, joy, and emotional transformation. Each piece is an invitation to feel more alive.
Ethos
I believe art should feel alive. That self-expression can heal us. That imperfection is part of being human. That play is medicine. That beauty can be created from almost anything, whether it’s a thrifted jacket, a found object on the street, or scraps that someone else overlooked. Most of all, I believe allowing ourselves to be truly seen creates deeper connection with ourselves and with each other. Love, Megawatt is my imperfect practice in these beliefs.

What’s in a name?
Love, Megawatt began as a nickname Stephanie was given by a community that made her feel a deep sense of belonging for the first time in her life. They saw her large, loving energy and celebrated it.
The name “Megawatt” speaks to her bright, energetic spirit. Our power grid runs on kilowatts, and one megawatt equals 1,000 kilowatts, which has always felt like an appropriately dramatic unit of measurement for her energy. If you know Stephanie, you know the name fits.
As she began facilitating large-scale gatherings and standing on stages holding energetic containers for hundreds and sometimes thousands of people, she started creating handmade clothing that reflected this “Megawatt” essence. The pieces became extensions of the energy she channels into her work: vibrant, expressive, playful, emotional, and impossible to ignore.
Stephanie has always signed her love letters simply:
Love,
So it only felt natural to invoke that same essence in her art.
Love, Megawatt speaks to the heart infused into every piece she creates.
